Basil Essential Oil
Basil essential oil’s herbaceous, sweet, anise-like aroma is traditionally used to clear the head, and inspire focus and productivity. This oil can offer potent relief when emotional or mental stress has translated into physical tension (such as a tight belly or shoulders). Aromatherapists use sweet basil to experience peace, and a sense of capable strength, to flow through a busy day.

Robert Tisserand's recommendation for linalol chemotype is maximum topical application of 3%, based on 15% eugenol content. Major concerns are for internal use of chemotype with high levels of estragole (methyl chavicol) content, as high levels are considered carcinogenic, and have produced DNA abnormalities in animals. Sweet Basil is not this chemotype.
